Dochgarroch Lock

Dochgarroch is the first lock you will go through after you leave our boat yard in Inverness. It is a very picturesque spot with lots of private boats and plenty of mooring where D.J, the lock keeper will help guide you through the lock.

Inverness is just about 5 miles away by road. At Dochgarroch you will find a great little restaurant & tearoom which also offers antiques and collectables!

Sights & Walks

Dochgarroch – Inverness Towpath – If you fancy a leisurely walk to see the Caledonian Canal from a different perspective then this is it! The 3.5 mile walk along the Caledonian Canal towpath offers very pleasant views, changing with each bend in the canal. There are no roads, no traffic other than pleasure craft, fishing boats in transit coast to coast, and the Jacobite Queen boat three times daily. The walking is good and is level all the way. The last half mile is along the River Ness, popular with anglers (including herons). The end point is Bught Park in Inverness.

Restaurants, Bars & Cafes

Oakwood Restaurant – Offering a selection of freshly made rolls, home made cakes and burgers during the day and fantastic evening meals in the restaurant (booking essential & bring your own wine as unlicensed). Whether it is a gourmet dinner, good home-cooked country food or a snack you want, the Oakwood will give you the chance to sample great Scottish Hospitality.
